#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. At the Arctic Tourism Week, the first major interregional tourism forum was held in Norilsk, representatives of relevant ministries, regional and municipal authorities, hospitality industry companies discussed the industry development and the most successful tourism cases in the Arctic.
Forum sessions were dedicated to master planning and national culture. The experts discussed industrial tourism practices, expeditionary tourism, measures to support entrepreneurs, the development of gastronomic, popular science tourism and cruises to the Arctic, as well as successful tourist cases in the Arctic.
“These inspiring cases are especially important for the local tourism community. I was pleased that tour operators, creative Norilsk citizens, entrepreneurs, craftsmen and designers presented their tourism products to the forum guests. And thanks to the online broadcast, thousands of people were able to get acquainted with cool local products created in Norilsk”, said Maxim Mironov, the Norilsk Development Agency (NDA) head. “It is very important that tourism is becoming an investment-attractive niche in Norilsk”.
Now the volume of small and medium-sized businesses’ investments in the industry already exceeds three billion rubles.
“Several important events took place at the forum. One of these is the signing of an agreement between the Norilsk Development Agency and the federal state budgetary institution Northern Administration for Hydrometeorology and Environmental Monitoring on the use of weather stations for tourism purposes. This will make it possible to make friends between science and tourism”, said Daria Matsuk, the Russian Natural Resources Ministry’s Roszapovedtsentr’s head.
The document opens up the opportunity to develop popular science routes in the northeast of Taimyr, to acquaint tourists with the weather station employees’ life peculiarities.
“The dream of traveling must be cherished”, noted Vadim Mamontov, the RussiaDiscovery CEO, the Russian Travel Industry Union’s Adventure Tourism Committee’s head. “In 2018, when we began to cooperate with the NDA, we had a dream that tourism on the Putorana plateau, in Taimyr, would become really comfortable. And I am very pleased that a lot has changed here since then: the quality of tourist services has increased, more and more new offers are appearing, the city face is changing. And the forum is also one of the factors of cherishing the dream, which to a large extent helps it come true”.

The forum organizers are the Ministry of the Russian Federation for the Development of the Far East and the Arctic, the Norilsk administration, the Norilsk Development Agency. The Russian Chairmanship in the Arctic Council events operator is the Roscongress foundation.
Recall that Nornickel raised issues of ethnic culture at the Arctic Tourism Week. More than 50 destinations were presented at the tourist exhibition In the Center of Taimyr.
