Arctic tourism to be discussed in Norilsk during Arctic Week

The interregional forum will bring together more than 300 experts - representatives of ministries, businesses, urbanists and tour operators.

#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. The development of tourism, infrastructure, transport, as well as the tourist features of the Russian North regions will be discussed by the Arctic Tourism Week interregional forum participants on April 9-13 in Norilsk. The event will take place as part of Russia’s Arctic Council chairmanship.

Experts and industry specialists will talk about successful tourism cases in the Arctic, take part in sessions on master planning, national culture as an object of tourist interest, and discuss the practices of industrial and expedition tourism.

“Discussions will touch upon support measures for tourism entrepreneurs, the development of gastronomic tourism, the popular scientific format of excursions, as well as a new tourism trend in Russia – cruises to the Arctic”, the organizers explained.

In addition, on the eve of the forum, the exhibition In the Center of Taimyr is being held, organized by the Norilsk Development Agency with the support of the Norilsk administration, the Nornickel company and the Arena sports and entertainment complex.

It is attended by the Taimyr tourism sector representatives, including 16 tour operators and excursion bureaus, nine masters of souvenir and gastronomic products, who present their goods and services. The exhibition will run from 3 to 9 April. It is expected that about five thousand people will be its guests.

For local residents, free tours of the city and Norilsk enterprises, an interactive program, and lecture sessions will be organized.

A special event during the exhibition and forum days will be a unique travel program for experts, media representatives and bloggers. As part of the media tour, the participants will visit the sights of Norilsk and Taimyr: the reindeer herders camp, the Putorana plateau foothills, Norilsk industrial facilities.

Earlier it became known that tourist flights would be launched along the Northern Sea Route, Norilsk people developed a concept for gastronomic tourism in the Arctic, five routes along the Taimyr mountains, lakes and waterfalls, as well as those connected with the Norilsk deposits, were certified and brought into line with federal standards of the tourism industry.

The This Is Taimyr also said that a website about the Arctic and the Far East tourism will appear in Russia.
