#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. The Russian Geographical Society and Energia+ have unveiled the Guide to the Cities of Russian Energy. This online resource highlights cities in Russia whose histories and developments are closely tied to geological expeditions, renowned Soviet enterprises, and contemporary energy companies.
“Our project aims to showcase how energy has shaped the character and culture of Russian cities. We are proud to present this work in collaboration with the Russian Geographical Society”, said Anna Poslyanova, the editor-in-chief of Energia+.
The guide introduces travelers to both large and small industrial cities, inviting them to explore museums, participate in tours of local enterprises, and visit protected natural areas. Through this service, travelers can learn about the histories of Russian megacities and unique settlements that have emerged and thrived due to deposits of oil, gas, coal, and other natural resources. The website compiles information about key attractions, allowing visitors and new residents to discover the modern faces and rich heritage of these cities.
In each city, visitors can explore sites related to industry and energy, complete with guided tours. This offers a unique opportunity for tourists to engage with the production processes and technologies that shape the economy and culture of the regions, as highlighted by the RGS.
The guide also features stunning works by some of the best photographers from Russia and around the world, capturing the natural beauty and architectural features of energy cities. Many of the images come from participants in the RGS photo contest titled The Most Beautiful Country.
