#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. One of the most significant Far North indigenous peoples’ holidays – Reindeer Herder Day – is solemnly celebrated in Taimyr for the 64th time.
Nomads from different parts of the tundra come to the holiday to meet with relatives and friends, solve personal household problems, as well as take part in sports competitions and compete in reindeer sleigh races.
This year, the Reindeer Breeder’s Day celebration coincided with the reindeer herding village Tuhard anniversary – it turned 55 years old.
“As a sign of respect for the Tuhard tundra inhabitants, the Nornickel Polar Division decided to award a certificate worth one million rubles for the village development.
In general, the company continues to systematically provide comprehensive support to representatives of the Taimyr indigenous population, honoring the winners of various competitions with memorable gifts on these holidays. This year, it was decided to replace prizes with cash certificates, thus giving people the opportunity to make their own choice”, the Polar Division’s press service said.
The main and most spectacular event of the Reindeer Breeder’s Day is the reindeer sleigh race. The races were held among men, women and youth.
The winners were presented with certificates for the purchase of snowmobiles for the first place, and cash certificates of 300 000 and 200 000 rubles for the second and third places.
Champions were also determined in competitions in national sports: jumping over sleds, national wrestling and throwing a maut on a trochee. The winners received certificates of 30, 25 and 20 thousand rubles. The same certificates were presented in all settlements where the celebrations took place.
Earlier, we reported that Nornickel had increased its support for the Taimyr indigenous peoples. In particular, with the company participation, a pantotherapy center and an arctic fox farm will be opened in Dudinka, and three feldsher and obstetric stations will be built. In January, experts began to develop a master plan for the new settlement of Tuhard.
