#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. The opening of the pantotherapy center in Dudinka was supported by Nornickel with the consent of the communities included in the coordinating council at the company.
The Hanavey community offered its ideas and decisions to the coordinating council, which includes more than 50 communities, on the organization of the pantotherapy center in Dudinka. The community has more than 500 domestic reindeer and is engaged in traditional economic activity – reindeer breeding.
Another community trade type is the delivery of young reindeer antlers – velvet – for further processing and production of preventive medicines.
Velvet – young reindeer antlers, filled with blood during the growth period. They are covered with thin velvety skin with short soft hair. In traditional oriental medicine of China and Korea, antlers are widely used to preserve strength and youth, drugs made from velvet are compared in effect only with ginseng.
The extraction and supply of reindeer antlers in Taimyr was very popular in the 1980-90s. For many reindeer herders, this business was a significant part of the activity, the products were in great demand in China and the Asia-Pacific region.
During the pandemic, the supply of antlers to the East was practically stopped, so the Taimyr herders began to look for other ways to use the reindeer breeding product, which is valuable in all respects.
The Hanavey community decided to organize the processing and use of reindeer antlers directly on the Taimyr territory. This is how the Dudinka pantotherapy center project was born.
The center is a room where special equipment will be installed for processing antlers and obtaining a special extract from velvet. The extract is added to a special antler bath, phyto barrel or other container for the visitor to take the procedure.
“Antler baths heal the human body, activating vital processes, promoting skin regeneration, wound healing. We understand that our products will be in demand, and we plan to develop in the future by opening branches in other cities. The extract that we will produce in Taimyr, can be send to other places. In fact, we will be the first in the world to organize preventive therapy on reindeer antlers”, said Aleksey Vatsik, assistant chairman of the Hanavey Nenets community.
The center creation budget is nine million rubles. The community would hardly have been able to manage such a project on its own. Therefore, Nornickel’s support in developing the indigenous peoples’ initiative turned out to be very timely. The opening of the center is scheduled for January 2023.
Earlier, we told that in Taimyr you can see everything for which tourists go to the Arctic.
