#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. A handicraft forum will be held in Dudinka from 19 to 27 April. Masters of Taimyr and their colleagues from the Yamalo-Nenets and Evenk Autonomous Districts, from the Turuhansk, Severo-Yeniseisk and Tyuhtet regions of the Krasnoyarsk territory, as well as from Moscow will gather at one site.
The forum will combine grants from several initiatives of the Taimyr House of Folk Art. Thus, the Altyn Uus project (translated from Dolgan as “golden master”) became the winner in the Nornickel’s World of New Opportunities charity competition, it is aimed at organizing creative workshops for people with disabilities. The Taimyr Crafts project received a presidential grant, the Ethnocultural Taimyr Traditions Keepers Union’s project, supported within the framework of the region’s Partnership program, is aimed at developing the ethnic souvenirs industry.
Craftsmen will not only demonstrate their talents, but also get acquainted with the intricacies of selling their products. Experienced local and visiting craftsmen will conduct training, involving colleagues with disabilities in the creative process.
Among other master classes there will be ones on working with polymer clay and recycled materials, making modern accessories from traditional materials – rovduga (deer suede), deer antler, and beads.
Earlier, we told that Taimyr schoolchildren were learning to make national souvenirs, amulets and jewelry, and a new local brand, Sever, is becoming popular in Norilsk.
