#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. On March 14, the Taimyr Local History Museum launched the exhibition The Great Northern Expedition by artist Elena Ilyankova, as announced on the museum’s Telegram channel.
The creative pieces on display were created as part of the project Heroes of the Arctic: Love and Duty, which is supported by the Presidential Fund for Cultural Initiatives. Each painting tells a small story from the Great Northern Expedition’s Lena-Yenisey detachment participants’ lives.
“The paintings depict their heroism and dedication to their homeland. They reflect how, three hundred years ago, a courageous team led by Vasily Pronchishchev set out to explore and conquer the then-uncharted Arctic territories, driven by a sense of duty and passion. Not everyone returned from that expedition; both Vasily Pronchishchev and his wife Tatiana – the first female polar explorer who shared the hardships of the northern expedition with him – lost their lives. Nevertheless, the team successfully fulfilled its mission, having explored the Taimyr peninsula and created detailed geographical maps”, the Taimyr Local History Museum explained.
Earlier, This Is Taimyr reported that new exhibits had been added to the collections of the Taimyr Local History Museum.
