#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. In Dudinka, master classes are held, where young Taimyr people learn how to make souvenirs, toys, amulets and jewelry of local ethnic groups. The events were organized as part of the Cultural Code of the Taimyr Peoples project, supported by the first grant competition The Taimyr World by the Nornickel company.
The project developer is the Krasnoyarsk Arctic, the Taimyr Foundation for the Promotion of Science, Culture, Education and Sports. Master classes are held on the basis of the project partner – the Information Methodological Center.
Indigenous peoples of the North have been famous for their art of making jewelry, souvenirs and amulets since ancient times. Today, Taimyr schoolchildren are adopting this valuable experience.
Mastering the traditional techniques for making national products of arts and crafts, children become familiar with the culture and traditions of the Taimyr ethnic groups. The events are held with the involvement of craftswomen and teachers.
15 schoolchildren attended a master class on making a Dolgan doll-amulet in the Taimyr Information and Methodological Center. It was conducted by Angelica Fedina, a teacher from Dudinka secondary school No. 1. The children not only learned how to make amulet dolls on their own, but also learned what role they played in the life of the Dolgan people, with what love mothers made them for their babies, protecting them from diseases and troubles.
The next master class will be devoted to national Nenets jewelry. It will be hosted by the head of the family Nenets club Mai Ma (Joy) Elena Evay.
Earlier, we reported that a large-scale Taimyr craft forum will be held in Dudinka in April. Also this spring, the capital of Taimyr will host the International Forum of Indigenous Peoples.
