#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. The Arctic Development Project Office (PORA) has launched a video course on learning the Enets language.
The Enets is one of the smallest indigenous peoples of the North. Now they mostly live on the territory of Taimyr. According to various estimates, only 20 to 40 people are native speakers of the Enets language.
The lessons will help master the rare language and learn more about the culture and history of the Arctic. The course is conducted by translator and philologist Daria Bolina.
“The work is very interesting. It even helps me restore my native language, to understand the lost vocabulary. It disciplines, and I imagine how valuable it will be for those who will use it”, said Daria Bolina.
Earlier, with the support of the PORA expert center, the first primer and workbooks in the Enets language were published.
This Is Taimyr wrote that an online translator will be developed for the indigenous peoples of the Arctic. For more than 30 years, the Taimyr newspaper has been publishing a page in the languages of the five indigenous ethnic groups of our peninsula – Dolgans, Nenets, Nganasans, Evenks and Enets, and on the Klyuch TV channel, you can watch news in the Taimyr minorities’ languages with Russian subtitles three times a week – on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 21:00. We also reported that this year the Big Argish ethnic festival will be dedicated to life in the Taimyr villages.
