On December 10 and 11, Moscow will host the Arctic Taste - an international gastronomic festival of northern cuisine as part of Russia’s chairmanship of the Arctic Council.

Key events of the program, including the Arctic Cuisine culinary marathon and the bloggers’ duel, will be broadcasted live on the website of the Russian presidency of the Arctic Council, the Roscongress Foundation, as well as in the festival community on the VKontakte social network.

The events of the festival will be held in the old mansion Loft Hall in Moscow. The diverse business and gastronomic program is aimed at popularizing the national cuisine of the indigenous peoples of the Arctic zone, developing gastronomic tourism and economy in this territory while carefully preserving the traditions of the North.

Participants of the business program – representatives of government authorities, industry associations, tourism and restaurant business – will discuss topical issues of preserving and developing the national cuisines of the peoples living in the Arctic zone, as well as ways to attract tourists to these regions.

On December 10, a business session Gastronomy as a Key Attraction of Tourism in the Arctic: Best International Practices and a presentation of the EALLU Arctic Council project on the traditional food culture of indigenous peoples will take place. On December 11, participants will see Packaging of National Cuisine in a Street Food Format workshop and Made in the Arctic Brand Formation as a Tool to Popularize Arctic Cuisine session.

On the evening of December 10, during the business program, an immersive Arctic Gala gastronomic dinner will take place, during which you can see how the chefs prepare dishes of northern cuisine. The organizers will also delight guests with an ethnic-style show program. The Yakut DJ duo Uraan, ethno performer Erkin Alekseev, singer and DJ Alena Minulina, and Hadri Okotetto, a performer of the Nenets epic from Yamal, will perform.

The technological exhibition Arctic Expo will run for two days, where multimedia stands-icebergs will be located, revealing the peculiarities of the Arctic regions of Russia and the Arctic countries. Visitors to the exposition will receive up-to-date information about the national and cultural characteristics, tourism and trade potential of these territories, manufacturers working there, marketplaces and opportunities for cooperation.

A rich gastronomic program is also planned. For two days, the Arctic Cuisine online culinary marathon of Arctic cuisine will be held at the Taste of the Arctic festival site. Experienced chefs from restaurants in nine Arctic regions of Russia and member countries of the Arctic Council will prepare original dishes of northern cuisine.

Among the Russian participants in the marathon are such well-known chefs as Andrey Anikiev from the Roomi restaurant of northern cuisine in Arhangelsk, Alexander Ermolin from the Timan restaurant-museum in Naryan-Mar, Ivan Balin, sous-chef of the VkareliiEst museum-restaurant, Ilya Vegera from the Seventh Heaven restaurant in Murmansk, Evgeny Alfan from the Aurora restaurant in Yakutsk, famous chefs from the Krasnoyarsk region, the Komi Republic and Chukotka.

The culmination of the second festival day will be a culinary duel in the Arctic cuisine Chef Versus ICE, where famous Russian bloggers trained by experienced chefs of the Far North will show their abilities. The culinary battle, as well as the Arctic Cuisine marathon, will be watched live on three online venues.

Also, viewers will have a unique opportunity to watch the broadcast of master classes of the indigenous small-numbered peoples of the Arctic on cooking over an open fire and borrow their recipes. Festival guests who are present directly on the site will taste the prepared dishes.

“The peoples of the Arctic, their national cuisine are beautiful and distinctive. People who have not been to the North should definitely get acquainted with the local gastronomic traditions and arctic flavor. I am sure that the festival will draw attention to our Arctic regions, to the life of the peoples of the Far North, and will become an important contribution to the development of Arctic tourism”, said Russian Minister for the Development of the Far East and the Arctic Alexey Chekunkov.

The initiator of the festival is the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia). The Roscongress Foundation is the events operator of the Russia’s chairmanship in the Arctic Council.

Earlier, we told about the gastronomic festival Sever, which has been held annually in Norilsk since 2018. We also said that the polar kitchen was presented at the gastronomic festival in St. Petersburg.
