Arctic development to be discussed at SPIEF 2023

June 07, 2023

The stand The Arctic - the Dialogue Territory will become a key platform for discussing the northern agenda at St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.

#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. More than 15 events are devoted to the development of the Arctic and the Northern Sea Route at one of the world’s largest economic and business events – the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF). This year it will be held for the 26th time from June 14 to 17 at the Expoforum exhibition center.

The key platform for discussing the polar agenda will be the stand The Arctic – the Dialogue Territory of the Ministry of Development of the Far East and the Arctic. The stand was presented for the first time at SPIEF last year. The result of his work was decisions on the Arctic sustainable development: the organization of year-round navigation along the Northern Sea Route (NSR), the telecommunications industry modernization and preferential regimes.

In 2023, experts will discuss climate change, biodiversity conservation, the NSR further development, film production in the Arctic, as well as new directions for the development of state support for investment projects. The heads of nine subjects of the Russian Arctic will present their regions’ investment potential.

In addition, experts will raise the topics of creating a comfortable urban environment and creating master plans for Arctic cities, digitalization, scientific and educational potential, attracting personnel and talented youth, developing tourism and accessibility of travel to the Arctic. One of the platforms with the bloggers’ participation will be dedicated to promoting the Arctic territories.

In addition to the business part, the stand guests will be able to discover the Arctic bar, send a postcard with views of the Far North to anywhere in the world and take part in the drawing of tours to the Russian Arctic regions.

Last year at SPIEF, Nornickel and the Murmansk region agreed to build a white metallurgy plant in Monchegorsk.

In addition, at SPIEF 2022, the company signed two agreements aimed at developing energy assets, and the Norilsk head, Dmitry Karasev, spoke about developments in permafrost conservation that can be applied in other cities in the Arctic. We also wrote that the Norilsk uniqueness was considered at the forum in St. Petersburg last year.
