#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. Norilsk and its development plan were discussed in several sessions at the anniversary 25th St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF).
The polar city is unique in several respects. A large research was conducted here: over 2,000 residents shared how they see Norilsk in the future. Norilsk became one of the first cities to have its own spatial development master plan in 2019.
Norilsk was among the first in Russia to create a strategy for the creative industries’ development. And the city is implementing an unprecedented renovation program now.
The Nornickel’s vice president Andrey Grachev said:
The comprehensive plan for the socio-economic Norilsk development designed until 2035. The total budget is 120 billion, 81.3 billion of which is allocated by the Nornickel Company. Previously, we were responsible for the creation of jobs, taxes, the territory’s development and the productive forces’ development. Now the state is turning to business due to external conditions. This is a kind of business socialization. Therefore, the renovation is an interesting practice here that can be extended to other cities.
The Norilsk Development Agency’s director Maxim Mironov said:
The renovation of Norilsk could be simple and primitive. We could just build more houses and repair roads, but due to the research we have done, new format of infrastructure is included in this program. These are the Arctic Museum of Modern Art, creative centers, a modern educational center and more. The management teams’ formation and training for these facilities has already begun.
