#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. A forest inventory was carried out on the area of 25.9 million hectares on the territory of the Taimyr forestry, the Putoransky natural reserve and the Taimyrsky biosphere reserve, which includes the northernmost forest in the world – the Ary-Mas tract.
According to TASS, the inspection was carried out by the Federal Forestry Agency Roslesinforg. Experts have determined the species composition of the forests, the volume and quality of wood. According to experts, such work should preserve the unique forests of the peninsula.
Most of the forests on the peninsula consist of the Dahurian larch, which makes up more than 70 percent of all trees. Next come Siberian spruce (18 percent) and warty birch (11.2 percent). In addition, nine species of shrubs were counted: low birch, common honeysuckle, goat willow, dog rose, Dahurian rhododendron and other plants.
“Most of the trees have a steady growth trend, are characterized by a uniform growth. The share of forested area to the total area of the peninsula is only 3.8 percent. The total timber stock of the forests growing in Taimyr is more than 227 million cubic meters. All forests are classified as reserved and are located on the lands of specially protected natural areas, where industrial harvesting is not carried out”, the experts noted.
On the basis of the obtained data, Roslesinforg will develop forest management documentation that will help preserve and reproduce forests within the boundaries of nature reserves in the north of the Krasnoyarsk region.
As the This Is Taimyr previously wrote, the Putorana plateau was included in the top 20 natural wonders of Russia.
