#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. In the modern world, understanding of indigenous peoples’ culture and identity special role in the mankind’s history has grown significantly. An important task of the current generation is the national culture revival and promotion, the indigenous peoples’ national heritage preservation and development, the Taimyr head Evgeny Vershinin noted in an address to the region inhabitants.
Festive events in Dudinka were held on a special scale. Representatives of all ethnic groups living on the peninsula gathered in the Taimyr capital. A bright, colorful procession in national costumes opened the holiday. By tradition, they lit the fire of friendship – a symbol of the Krasnoyarsk region north peoples unity. A concert was organized on Naberezhnaya square, and hospitable hostesses treated everyone to national dishes in cozy tents.
For active northerners, demonstration performances in national sports were held on the sports ground: throwing a maut (rope) on a trochee, jumping over sleds and pulling a stick, and then the smallest guests of the holiday could try their hand.
For several years in a row, in parallel with the Indigenous Peoples World Day, the Krasnoyarsk region Indigenous Peoples Youth Forum has been held in Taimyr. This fact emphasizes the importance of the indigenous peoples of the North language and culture preserving.
