#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. For the first time, an electronic collection of letters by the famous Krasnoyarsk artist Vasily Surikov can be read online without cuts. The digital edition has been prepared by the Krasnoyarsk Regional Museum of Local History.
“The book presents Vasily Surikov’s letters’ full texts from the collections of the Krasnoyarsk Regional Museum of Local History, which were last published in 1977 from copies with significant cuts and without indicating the storage location of the originals. Letters first published in 2015 are also included. For the first time, letters from the artist’s relatives are being published – all the correspondence between Surikov and his relatives of 1866-1952 has been collected, a total of 243 letters”, TASS quotes the museum’s press service as saying.
The book also contains detailed commentary, photos of the original letters, often with Surikov’s drawings, which have not been published before. Later, the book is planned to be published in paper form.
142 of the 200 known letters of Surikov are stored in the Krasnoyarsk Regional Museum of Local History. They were published twice – in 1948 and 1977, but with cuts and errors, since they were printed from copies sent to Moscow.
