#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. A ceremonial opening of the capsule, which was walled up in the Dudinka sea port Museum’s wall 25 years ago, took place in the Taimyr Museum of Local History. The capsule contained a message to the port workers of the future, written by their colleagues in 1999, which was to be read in December 2024.
“That year we celebrated the 55th anniversary of the port (the date of its foundation at that time was considered to be 1944). At the ceremonial meeting of our team, it was decided to write a message to descendants, which was to be read at the celebration of the 80th anniversary of the port”, said Pavel Solovyov, a veteran of the Dudinka sea port, writer, historian, and the port museum founder. “The capsule was ordered from the Dudinka port’s repair and mechanical workshop. It was made by the best turner of our port, Vladimir Korotkov. I was asked to write the text of the message, then it was approved by the management”.
The guests gathered at the ceremony listened to the text of the message, in which 25 years ago the port workers shared their vision of how the work of the city-forming enterprise would be organized in 2024, what resources it would have. Many of the stated points were fulfilled – this is the equipment computerization, the Internet provision, equipment modernization, infrastructure development.
But some points brought kind smiles to the guests: for example, the authors of the message assumed that in the future, some of the cargo would be delivered by submarines, and an oil pipeline would be laid from Dikson to Dudinka.
The event was concluded by the Nornickel’s Polar Transport Branch Head Sergey Kugaevsky (let us recall that he took office in early December). He emphasized the importance of the event and the need to preserve historical memory, and also thanked the port veterans for their contribution to the development of the city-forming enterprise.
The ceremony of handing over the capsule to the director of the Taimyr Museum of Local History Emilia Stambrovskaia was a crucial moment: the exhibit will be kept in the institution’s funds.
Earlier, This Is Taimyr reported that the Taimyr Museum’s funds were replenished with new interesting exhibits.
