#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. The maternity hospital on Bogdan Hmelnitsky street, 18, worked in Norilsk for 50 years – from 1968 to 2018. Almost all those years, the walls of the opposite houses were decorated with touching gratitude to mothers from fathers overwhelmed with emotions, inspired by their daughters and sons’ birth.
The Norilsk Development Agency (NDA) offered to keep warm memories of the new Norilsk citizens birth.
The organizers received several dozen stories of Norilsk residents who were born in this maternity hospital. The best of those stories formed the basis of artistic solutions for hand-drawn collages.
For example, the twins on one of them is a story about how the first child was born before midnight, and his brother a few minutes later, right after the midnight, that is on the next calendar day, and the birth of the twins had to be recorded on different days.
Another picture tells that on International Women’s Day on March 8, only men took delivery, releasing all the maternity hospital female staff from their duties on the holiday. One expectant mother went to give birth only after she had read the book about the creation of the world to the end. Friday the thirteenth became the birth day of 29-year-old Bogdan, who, together with his family, now considers this day the happiest one…
Many of these unique and amazing stories have become the plot basis of drawings near the legendary Norilsk maternity hospital.
From the very beginning, the graffiti artist Vyacheslav Kozilov liked the idea that he was offered to embody in paint on the façade.
“I have already worked in the Arctic, but this is my first time in Norilsk. Our paint is based on nitro, it lays down well so far, five days – and my facade will be ready. We work with paint exclusively from spray cans, this is a fairly durable material, its standard warranty period for works is about three years”, Vyacheslav Kozilov told This Is Taimyr.
The new art facades will be finished by early next week. They will replenish the ARcTic gallery of street arts. This project of the Norilsk Development Agency, supported by Nornickel and the municipality, has been implemented since 2019.
The project has already donated eight art facades to the city. Reindeer and a she-bear with a bear cub decorated the buildings ends at the entrance to the city from the side of the airport on Krasnoyarskaya street, the Owl on Norilskaya street in Kayerkan meets everyone passing along the highway. In the yard near the Youth Center, a painting Lucky Goal appeared, and at the city exit near the bakery there is now a piece of Greece – a mural (a huge image on the wall) depicting the head of one of the goddesses. In 2020, the artists of ARcTic worked in 3D technology, with the help of which they created three-dimensional balloons, an airship and a rover.
Earlier in the History Spot section, we told when the Norilsk maternity hospital was born.
