#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. In the Yakut city of Neryungri and in the village of Iyengre, from March 16 to March 19, the first International Championship in traditional reindeer breeding in Russia will be held. It is planned that representatives of China and Mongolia will take part in it.
According to the Saha (Yakutia) Republic press service the meeting is being held as part of Russia’s chairmanship of the Arctic Council to strengthen good neighborly relations with the Arctic states and develop reindeer husbandry. The championship organizers sent out invitations to 20 Russian reindeer breeding regions.
The competition includes sled jumping, northern triple jump, lasso throwing, running with a stick on wide skis. Competitions are planned for Arctic competencies: a reindeer herder, a chum hostess, operation and maintenance of an off-road motor vehicle. The traditional North cuisine masters will also show themselves.
The reindeer sled race and the deer catching competition on the Iyengra river will be the most spectacular event of the tournament. The events plan also includes a conference on the reindeer husbandry development, training and support for nomadic reindeer herders.
Earlier, the World Skills Russia championship among reindeer herders was held in the Taimyr tundra, participants from Evenkia and Yamal came to it.
Recall that the reindeer herders and fishermen of Taimyr can receive the status of agricultural producers, the social projects of the indigenous Taimyr ethnic groups were supported by Nornickel, and the State Duma will consider the issue of nomadic schools for tundra dwellers. Also, we reported that it was proposed to include chum workers in the list of professions in Russia.
