#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. A significant event took place in Taimyr, which opened a new page in the study and preservation of the native language – an updated Dolgan primer was published. The author of the publication is Anna Barbolina.
Its presentation took place within the framework of the International Decade of Native Languages and was timed to coincide with the 35th anniversary of the Association of Indigenous Peoples of Taimyr.
“The publication of a new format textbook was another important step in the preservation and development of the Dolgan language. It demonstrated the interest of society in the native language and culture, as well as the readiness of educational institutions to support and develop them”, the Taimyr House of Folk Art specialists noted.
Anna Barbolina, the primer author, said that she was at the origins of the Dolgan script and worked with Ogdo Aksenova:
“After the Dolgan alphabet was approved in 1979, experimental editions of the primer were published, and the first stable one was published in 1990. Since then, it has been periodically reprinted. The current reprint is related to the requirements for an educational publication; it necessarily includes a number of topics on the history of the native land, country, and independent studies for children. The circulation of this textbook is 129 copies, which is the number of first-graders-Dolgans in the Taimyr region. It is mainly intended for children from villages. It would also be necessary to publish a textbook on literary reading and methodological recommendations, but this requires additional funds.”
We will add that Anna Barbolina, an honorary resident of Dudinka and an honorary citizen of Taimyr, is the co-author of all three versions of the primer: first an experimental one (1981), then a trial one (1984), and then a stable school primer of the Dolgan language. In 2001, together with Professor Setsu Fujishiro of the University of Tokyo, Anna Barbolina prepared for publication a complete collection of Ogdo Aksenova’s works in three languages - Dolgan, Russian and Japanese.
Earlier, This Is Taimyr reported that new school buses would be delivered to Taimyr.
