#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. Environmental activists set up a research camp on one of the coldest and deepest lakes in Russia Lama.
The LamaLocation project’s goal is to explore the using alternative energy sources’possibilities in the summer at the tourist season’s peak. The eco-marathon volunteers, Nord Diving Club’s divers, Taimyr Reserves’ employees, Fedorovsky Polar State University’s students and members of the regional sports public organization Storm went on the expedition. The event official partner is the Norilsknickelremont.
Volunteers brought equipment and set up a camp on in the nature reserve Putoransky.
“A camp with a full cycle of life support from solar energy will be created after the research, after studying the possibility of the gasoline and diesel power generators’ use minimizing”, said Oleg Pilyugin, the project’s author and leader, the Russian Geographical Society’s member, the Norilsk City Council of Deputies’ deputy.
The ecologist, of the Norilsk City Council’s member, the University’s representative Natalya Karmanovskaya gave recommendations on anthropogenic load’s prevention during the project implementation.
“The Taimyr Reserves’ state environmental inspectors Artem Tibeikin and Ksenia Kalinina conducted a walking tour for the participants to the waterfalls and the mountain lake. And the divers, together with the ecological marathon’s volunteers’ teams Inferno, Terra, Storm and Tornado examined the water area adjacent directly to the headquarters. They found a tree entwined with fishing nets at the bottom of the lake”, said the expedition members.
The activists are installing and equipping the visitor center’s life this week. The headquarters will work until the end of the season.
The LamaLocation project became one of the winners Nornickel’s charitable program the World of New Opportunities. This project was supported by the Federal Service for Supervision of Natural Resources’ head Svetlana Radionova. Volunteers are preparing an application to the Presidential Grants Fund.
