#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. The research vessel Mikhail Somov delivered construction materials to Hooker island, Tikhaya bay, on the territory of the Russian Arctic national park to create the world’s northernmost Arctic museum there.
The project is being implemented by the Russian Arctic national park and the Arctic Museum and Exhibition Center, reports the Northern HEMD website.
Also on the Franz Josef Land archipelago, a team from the Northern Hydrometeorology and Environmental Monitoring Directorate (Northern HEMD) delivered vital supplies to the northernmost weather station in Russia – HEMD named after E.T. Krenkel.
Despite difficult weather conditions – rain and gusty winds – specialists successfully carried out maintenance and adjustment of the weather station equipment. This provided the stable connection needed to continue working. An important step was the introduction of a new satellite system, thanks to which communications between the station and the mainland will become more efficient.
A new shift of meteorologists began work at the station. A change of specialists was carried out – a year after wintering, the polar station employees went on vacation. Next summer they will return to their professional duties.
Earlier, This Is Taimyr told about the food and equipment delivery to Russian polar stations. The first comprehensive scientific polar station of the Russian Arctic national park will be created on Franz Josef Land.
