#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. The scientific expedition vessel Mikhail Somov has set off from Arhangelsk on its second supply voyage to the polar stations of Roshydromet, reports the press service of the Northern Administration for Hydrometeorology and Environmental Monitoring (NAHEM).
On board there is a change of polar explorers, as well as food, equipment, fuel, construction materials and other cargo necessary to support the work of meteorologists at hard-to-reach stations. Within a month, the ship will deliver supplies to 16 stations located on the islands and coasts of the Barents and Kara seas.
During the voyage, specialists from the NAHEM will carry out scheduled maintenance of meteorological equipment, communications and energy equipment. New power generating units are planned at several polar hydrometeorological stations.
Off the Taimyr coast, according to an already established tradition, during the voyage there will be a ceremony of launching wreaths at the site of the Alexander Sibiryakov steamship sinking in 1942.
The return of Mikhail Somov to Arhangelsk is planned for early August. In total, the ship will make three such voyages during the 2024 navigation season. During the first import voyage, it delivered cargo to 20 polar stations of the Northern and Murmansk departments of Roshydromet.
Previously, unique research instruments of the Arctic Hydrometeorological Service were demonstrated in St. Petersburg. We also reported that This Is Taimyr’s Russian-speaking version – the Severny Gorod news portal is among the eight best regional media outlets in the country.
