Russian-Nenets illustrated alphabet to be published in Taimyr

August 18, 2023

More than 70 children sent drawings of animals, natural phenomena, life and culture of the peoples of the North to use them in the book.

#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. More than 70 young artists from seven municipalities of Taimyr submitted drawings to the Native Word contest dedicated to the Nenets language. The action was held as the International of the World’s Indigenous Peoples Day event.

The illustrations will be included in the Russian-Nenets alphabet, which will be published in Taimyr. The participants sent drawings of natural phenomena, animals, life and culture of the peoples of the North.

According to the press service of RN-Vankor, most of the pictures were sent by children from the village of Vorontsovo. Gifts for participation in the competition were given to all the children.

The main goal of the action is the revival and promotion of the languages of the Taimyr indigenous peoples, their popularization among children and youth. The final point should be the publication of alphabets in all languages of the five indigenous peoples of the peninsula.

Recall that the first competition was held in 2022. As a result, the oil-producing enterprise RN-Vankor printed the Russian-Dolgan alphabet, also using children’s work.

The actions are organized by RN-Vankor with the assistance of the Taimyr Municipal District Administration’s Taimyr Indigenous Minorities and Agriculture and Fishery Department. Over the past three years, Rosneft has implemented more than a thousand events for children.

Earlier, we wrote that the Children of the Arctic animated series is being shown on Aeroflot aircraft, and the Nomad game in 11 indigenous languages will be transferred to remote national regions. In the spring, Norilsk presented the VR application Nomad Nenets Dictionary: virtual reality introduces the life and language of one of the five indigenous ethnic groups of Taimyr.
