#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. The educational initiative Hatanga Heritage originated as a follow-up to the Russian Geographical Society’s (RGS) comprehensive ecological expedition titled Arctic General Cleanup.
During the expedition, efforts were made to clean the coastline of accumulated metal debris and to revitalize the village as one of Russia’s key outposts. More than 2 500 people from various parts of Russia applied to participate in the expedition, according to the RGS portal.
The cleanup of Hatanga’s coastline took place over two years. During three shifts, volunteers removed over 700 tons of industrial waste, which has already been sent for recycling. The outcomes of the activists’ hard work include not only cleaner shores but also valuable scientific findings, remarkable discoveries, and a wealth of photographs and videos. These materials were used to create a comprehensive photo exhibition.
As part of the project, four themed virtual tours of the photo exhibition have been developed:
Hatanga. Three Suns for Happiness. This tour highlights the harsh Arctic region’s conditions, focusing on Hatanga’s natural environment, history, and its people.
The Cold Raised Me. A poetic exploration of the North, featuring music, poetry and memories from notable individuals.
Hatanga is Us. A narrative about the expedition members – young scientists, photographers, journalists, athletes, and managers – sharing fascinating stories about how certain photographs were taken and the memorable experiences they had.
A Snowflake Won’t Melt. An interactive quiz journey designed for the youngest visitors. Young explorers of the Arctic can learn interesting facts, tackle challenging questions, and solve riddles about the North.
The Telegram channel Our Taimyr encourages:
“Turn up the sound, choose any route you like, and explore Hatanga with the RGS!”
Earlier, This Is Taimyr reported that the Yenisey Express is arriving in Norilsk and Dudinka.
