#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. The documentary film Voices of the Arctic by Russian director Ivan Vdovin received one of the main awards of the international festival Ischia Film Festival, which recently ended in Italy. The picture was awarded the prize ‘Best Film in the Location Denied section’.
The International Tourism Film Festival Ischia Film Festival has been held annually on the island of Ischia in Italy since 2003.
“Our Arctic film journey is built around the concept of ‘native’ in all its scale and diversity. After all, everyone has their own. But the relation to this ‘native’ has its own piercing intonation, which unites people separated by thousands of kilometers. Apparently, this is why the international jury of the prestigious Italian festival marked our film with one of the main awards”, TASS quotes Ivan Vdovin.
The film Voices of the Arctic consists of three short stories about the people of the Far North, each of which is an essay on traditions, life and the role of music in the characters’ lives. Filming took place in the Yamalo-Nenets and Nenets Autonomous Okrugs and in Yakutia. During the expedition, the film crew covered 50,000 kilometers, made 24 plane and helicopter flights, and shot the film at a temperature of minus 60 degrees Celsius.
Prior to their success in Italy, Voices of the Arctic won the Grand Prix at the XXVII International Ecological TV Festival Save and Preserve in Khanty-Mansiysk. In addition, the film by Ivan Vdovin participated in the out-of-competition program of the Shanghai Film Festival and was nominated for the 2023 Golden Eagle national award.
Earlier, we reported that the first film expedition arrived in Norilsk in March 1945: Novosibirsk documentary filmmakers shot the film The Giant of the Arctic . And in 2012, director Alexander Melnik screened Oleg Kuvaev’s cult novel Territory: filming in Taimyr was supported by Norilsk Nickel. The movie was shown in Norilsk two days before its release in Russia.
