Norilsk and its environs became the set for the film based on the cult novel by Oleg Kuvaev in the summer of 2011. The first shooting of the Territory began on June 19 on the Putorana plateau and a month later continued in Norilsk on Oktyabrskaya Square and in the building of the now former scientific and technical library.
On the night of July 11-12, local schoolchildren, taxi drivers, and Siyanie shop sellers were filmed for the episodes with the participation of the stars Konstantin Lavronenko and Ksenia Kutepova. Lizzie Lawson, a make-up artist from England, did the makeup of the actors and the extras.
Everyone who helped Alexander Melnik’s team in making the film was listed in the credits of the film version, which the director presented in Norilsk two days before the release of Territory in Russian cinemas, on 14 April, 2015. At the meeting with the Norilsk people, the director did not hide his pride that he had managed to shoot such a film in the place where no one had shot a feature film before. As one reviewer wrote, the film was remembered for the unique beauty of the North and the stunning play of the stunning actors.
