Refusal from paper can save millions of trees

June 14, 2022

It is necessary to work out the legal framework to switch to electronic document management.

#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. The refusal of business from paper will save almost three billion rubles annually. This was stated by representatives of Sberbank at the All-Russian Forum EDM’2022. In the bank itself, such costs amount to 2.5 billion a year, for telecom operators – 16 million.

Draft law No. 1173189-7 which allows the creation and use of electronic documents has already been adopted by the State Duma in the first reading and is being finalized now. The draft law provides for the possibility of destroying paper documents’ versions within a year. Now they must be stored for 25 to 45 years, and this increases the business and the state’s costs.

The documents’ digitalization will speed up all business processes by three to five times. And converting even part of the archives into electronic form will save millions of trees.

Experts are confident that the digitalization should be implemented without compromising the integrity and availability of such documents. This can be achieved by creating an infrastructure that allows market participants to transfer documents from paper to electronic form and vice versa, as well as to delegate the storing digital documents’ functions without compromising their safety.
