#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. A creative delegation of the Krasnoyarsk region’s Far North indigenous peoples’ representatives brought their exhibition The Family is the Keeper of Traditions to Moscow. The exhibition of folk arts and crafts works has got a special prize.
The XIX international exhibition-fair Treasures of the North: Masters and Artists of Russia – 2024 took place from April 29 to May 2 this year. This large-scale event takes place annually and brings together original craftsmen from among the indigenous peoples of the North.
It is worth adding that participation in the international exhibition-fair of the Krasnoyarsk region’s North craftsmen became possible thanks to the regional state program Preservation and Development of the Traditional Way of Life and Economic Activities of Indigenous Peoples.
The delegation representing the Krasnoyarsk region included masters of folk arts and crafts, artists, designers, actors, reindeer herders of Taimyr, Evenkia and the Turuhansk region. At the exhibition they demonstrated all the beauty of their culture, the spiritual and material components. Representatives of the northern peoples also spoke about the tourism potential of the northern territories and held master classes on bone-carving art and the creation of national souvenirs for exhibition guests. There was also a tasting of northern cuisine.
As a result, Krasnoyarsk North received several awards. Thus, in the Best Regional Exposition competition, in the Regional Stands category, our region received a special prize for the Family is the Keeper of Traditions exposition.
Two masters won the Polar Style competition, during which ethnic fashion was demonstrated in the category Best Modern Costume with Ethnic Elements. Marianna Mikhailova from the Taimyr Dolgano-Nenets region showed the best summer version of the costume, and Tatyana Botulu from Evenkia demonstrated the best winter version of the costume.
Northern bone carvers also showed their skills. Thus, in the category Artistic Processing of Bone and Horn, Taimyr bone carver Andrey Porotov became the best, his fellow countryman Nikolay Kirgizov took third place, and Evenki resident Semyon Gorbunov won a special prize.
The work of the Yarikan arts and crafts studio from Vanavara was highly appreciated by the jury. They took third place in the Embroidery and Beadwork category. Anastasia Nikiforova, a craftswoman from the Turuhansk district, received a special prize in the Souvenir Crafts category.
The northerners did not go unnoticed in the song and dance competition of the all-Russian festival of national cultures of indigenous peoples of the North, Siberia and the Far East – Nomads of the North. Taimyr schoolgirl Arina Tsaregorodtseva took first place in the Vocal (solo) category and received the special prize Festival Star. Artists from Evenkia Vladimir Homenko and Maxim Dzhenkoul were highly appreciated. They performed out of competition.
