#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. On June 5, the North Women First Forum was solemnly opened in the Tauride Palace. A creative delegation from Taimyr is among the participants. Northern women entrepreneurs, leaders of NGOs and public organizations will share their experience of joint work.
The event will become one of the large-scale communication platforms for discussing the women’s role in the Arctic territories economy development, healthcare, cultural industries, in preserving the traditional way of life, native languages and culture, and traditional family values.
Delegates from the country’s Arctic regions will discuss traditional economic sectors in achieving social well-being, and will also take part in the thematic sessions ‘The North women’s role in the creative industries development’ and ‘Northern tourism as an alternative to southern resorts’.
The Taimyr women will present Nganasan and Dolgan costumes to the forum participants, Svetlana Zhovnitskaya will make a presentation on the Taimyr indigenous peoples’ languages preservation and development.
The program of the first day was opened by the plenary session ‘The North women: preservation of traditions and sustainable development of the territories’. The participants discussed the development of women’s leadership potential in the Arctic regions and career opportunities for them, what mechanisms should be implemented to promote inclusion, equality and social cohesion, and the traditional culture identification.
The program also includes a strategic session ‘Northerners’ social well-being and health’. A mobile medical center operates on the forum’s sidelines, there participants can undergo medical examinations. Attendees can also discuss support measures for families with children, the disabled, ways to conclude social contracts and the applying for payments possibility – on these and other issues it will be possible to get help from specialists. All days of the forum, a consultation center for social assistance will operate at its site. Its work was organized by the Ministry of Labor and the Social Fund of Russia.
Recall that the North Women First Forum organizers were the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation and the Association of Indigenous Peoples of the North, Siberia and the Far East.
Earlier, we talked about the fact that in the autumn of 2023 – in the spring of 2024, specialists from the Taimyr House of Folk Art will go on historical and ethnographic expeditions to the Hatanga and Dudinka regions of the peninsula to study the Taimyr indigenous peoples’ traditions.
