The Sulfur Program is comprehensive. It is being implemented within the framework of the Clean Air federal project, the total amount of funding is 250 billion rubles. As of today, contracts have been signed for 76 billion, that is, the Sulfur program is in action”, Andrey Grachev, vice president of the company for federal and regional projects, said.
The program involves a partial reconfiguration of metallurgical production and the construction of facilities for the utilization of sulfur dioxide with the necessary infrastructure projects. The Sulfur program is being implemented in stages. Earlier, the senior vice president of Nornickel, the head of the Norilsk division, Nikolay Utkin, said that as part of the first stage in 2022, the construction and installation works of the sulfuric acid production workshop will be completed at the Nadezhda metallurgical plant, and commissioning will begin in 2023.
The second stage of the program is the disposal of sulfur dioxide contained in the rich exhaust gases at Copper plant and the closure of the converter conversion of the lean gas plant; construction of facilities and expansion of infrastructure for the processing of sulfuric acid from the copper chain. Completion of the work is scheduled for 2025.
