#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. Nornickel got a high rating in the AK&M agency’s 2023 social responsibility rating. 55 companies from various industries took part in it.
Experts assessed the share of social spending in the companies’ revenue – these are salaries, internal social costs, charity expenses and taxes.
The company took second place among non-ferrous metallurgy and mining enterprises – Nornickel’s social spending amounted to 36.8 percent of revenue.
Alrosa and Polyus are also in the top three. Among the largest holdings with consolidated revenue of more than 200 billion rubles, Nornickel is in 9th place.
Last year, Nornickel transferred almost 300 billion in tax payments. The company’s social package is one of the best in Russia, and wages are among the highest in the industry.
From 2018 to 2022, wages in the company increased by 75 percent, which is much higher than the inflation rate. In 2022, wages at Nornickel enterprises in Norilsk and Krasnoyarsk region increased by 20 percent, in the Murmansk region and other regions – by 10 percent.
Nornickel is one of the key participants in the national projects Clean Air, Clean Country, Housing and Urban Environment.
Expenditures on social programs and benefits in the company increased by 7.8 percent – to 16.4 billion rubles. For example, more than 4.5 billion rubles were allocated for the program to update the living conditions of employees Made with Care.
New medical centers are opening in the cities where Nornickel is responsible to support the employees and residents’ health. As a result, the employee engagement index has grown to 68 percent, which is six percent higher than the industry average. Last year, Nornickel allocated 976 million rubles to support the indigenous peoples of the North.
The company is also carrying out large-scale construction in Norilsk under the renovation program – investments amounted to 81 billion rubles.
The new strategy for Nornickel’s socially sustainable development until 2030 highlights four main priorities: safety and high-quality working conditions, human development and talent management, technology development, and improving the quality of life in the company’s areas of responsibility.
Nornickel previously received a high rating in the ESG rating of the RAEX agency.
