#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. The Arctic Development Project Office (PORA) and the Moscow State University’s Faculty of Economics have released the sixth annual rating of sustainable development of companies in the Russian Arctic – Polar Index. Companies – it involves 23 Arctic companies from nine regions.
Nornickel ranked second with an index of 0.827, Rosneft ranked first with 0.839, and Gazprom Neft ranked third with 0.804.
The Polar Index is a rating project that allows ranking companies operating in the northern latitudes and regions of the Arctic according to how their development is characterized by the achievement of high economic performance, the fulfillment of social obligations and responsible environmental management.
“Speaking about the development of the Arctic, we look into the future. In designing this future, it is essential to adhere to the principles of sustainable development. The responsibility of economic flagships, leading companies operating in high latitudes, is especially high here”, said Nikolay Doronin, the PORA board chairman.
The rating uses a completely open calculation method based on 24 parameters, which are divided into three groups – economic and environmental, socio-economic and socio-environmental, eight indicators each. Each of the indicators is assigned an individual weight in the general formula. All data is taken from open sources: annual reports of companies and their reports on sustainable development, company reporting under NFRS, Rosstat data.
Earlier, in the ESG rating of the RAEX agency, Nornickel scored 76.2 points. This indicator shows that the management of ESG risks and opportunities in the company is at a high level.
