#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. On June 10, the Norilsk Museum’s art gallery will open an exhibition of watercolor and graphic works by Motyumyaku Turdagin Taimyr is the Country of Deer Paths. The exhibition is dedicated to the 85th anniversary of the outstanding Nganasan artist’s birth.
“I look like an alien”, Motyumyaku Turdagin told, implying that artists are people not of this world. In his drawings, next to his signature, he often depicted tiny idols – they were his sign and at the same time a talisman. The exhibition is an opportunity to see the endless tundra and the sacred aspects of the Taimyr ancient people’s life.
The master’s works convey a unique local culture: the Nganasans, the most ancient northern people of Eurasia, live only in Taimyr.
At the joint exhibition of the Taimyr House of Folk Art and the Norilsk Museum, viewers will see more than a hundred graphic and watercolor works. A separate showcase will display Motyumyaku Turdagin’s instruments, donated by the master’s relatives.
Turdagin’s works are kept in museums in Moscow, Krasnoyarsk, Norilsk, and in private collections in Russia, Germany, and Canada.
Earlier, the Norilsk Museum presented three centuries of beads in Russian art.
