#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. The Norilsk Museum is inviting high school students from Norilsk to join an intellectual and patriotic game focused on cities of labor valor.
This local project has been specially designed by the museum to commemorate the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War, with support from the general and preschool education department and the culture and arts department of the Norilsk administration.
“The contribution of Norilsk to the Victory was unique – it was primarily a battle for nickel. During the war, this remote northern city became one of the main suppliers of metals to military factories, which is why, in 2022, Norilsk was honored with the title of City of Labor Valor. Currently, 70 cities in Russia have this title”, the museum states.
To participate in the game, school teams will need to prepare in advance by detailed studying local history – specifically, the labor achievements of Norilsk on the ‘nickel front’ during the Great Patriotic War – as well as the broader context of cities of labor valor in Russia and their contributions to Victory. Through interactive activities, orientation challenges, and quests within museum exhibitions, high school students will not only find it engaging to learn crucial facts about their country’s history and their own hometown, but this exciting format will also help them feel connected to the events of the past and to the heroic efforts of Norilsk residents who worked under harsh wartime conditions for a better future and for Victory, the museum staff emphasizes.
Earlier, This Is Taimyr reported that in honor of the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War, the Taimyr local history museum is launching a major online project titled Victory Exhibit.
