April 11, 2023

The exhibition was timed to coincide with the Dolgan artist’s 85th anniversary.

#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. An exhibition of works by the first professional Dolgan artist, the USSR Artists Union member, Taimyr Honorary Citizen Boris Molchanov (1938-1993) – Distant Star Light – was opened in the Norilsk Museum’s art gallery.

The large-scale inter-museum exposition presented more than a hundred works of painting, graphics, and decorative and applied art. For the first time – the artist’s personal belongings.

The original artist, who was born on the Heta river banks, is called the Dolgan life singer. In his paintings, Boris Molchanov talked about the places where he spent his childhood, tried to recall the details of nomadic life, signs, customs and laws of the tundra, which should definitely be observed.

The master’s arsenal of expressive means includes toning, drawing, decorative seam, reindeer internal organs and bones, wood, and clay. Leather paintings exhibited in the Central House of Artists in Moscow made Boris Molchanov’s name famous.

The exposition at the art gallery will run until May 13. Prior to this, Distant Star Light was shown in multimedia format at the Taimyr Museum of Local Lore.
