#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. The founder and head of the educational cluster of the New Opera Alisa Spirina held a two-day seminar on communication with children ‘in the theater and through the theater’ as part of the special program of Theater Seasons.
The seminar was attended by teachers, the city museum employees, public library, department of culture, artists working with school theater studios. The second day meeting was attended by schoolchildren. Ninth-graders from secondary school No. 8 did not hide the fact that they are passionate about theater and took an active part in the seminar’s practical part.
According to Alisa Spirina, right at the first meeting she was pleasantly surprised by the close interaction of the Norilsk Polar theatre with the city’s schools, although the theater does not have a special structure for that. All educational programs are usually implemented by directors and actors of the Norilsk Drama, invited specialists. The sponsor of most projects, as well as the Theater Seasons, is the Nornickel company.
At the meeting, Alisa Spirina shared the experience of educational programs of her theater, paying special attention to the psychology of children from 11 to 17 years old and how it is possible and necessary to work with them. One of the latest projects of the educational cluster is the Podcast Workshop. In order for teenagers to acquire new skills in the theater and also grow up responsible, they are introduced to the life of the New Opera, interview leading artists and post videos on a special portal.
According to Alisa Spirina, it is easier for drama theaters to attract teenagers, since they speak the same language with young adults… With opera and ballet, and the New Opera named after E.V. Kolobov is a musical theater, which is more complicated, viewers also have to learn the language of music. The New Opera’s developments are in demand not only in the capital, but also in other territories. Alisa Spirina holds her seminars both online and offline. The last one was a trip to Ulan-Ude.
The educational project head is sure that theater pedagogy should be present everywhere: “The theater as an institution, and as a resource, and as an impetus for conversation is a very powerful tool”. The Norilsk seminar listeners had the chance to ascertain this.
