#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. DJ Damir Alibakiev and producer Roman Laletin have collected authentic folklore recordings of the Russian Arctic song traditions and created 12 original electronic world music tracks based on them. You can hear such instruments as kalyuka, homus and zhaleika in them.
The album was born from the musical accompaniment of the Welcome to the Arctic! festivals, which took place in 2018-2019 in several Russian cities.
The festivals were organized by the Project Office for the Development of the Arctic (PORA) to draw attention to the natural, historical and cultural sites of the Arctic, as well as to increase the tourist attractiveness of the regions of the Far North. Damir Alibakiev with the Hapanasasa project played an ethnic dance set in the city at the end of each festival performance.
“During the festivals, which took place in an atmosphere of love and endless creativity, the idea was born to create our own musical project that could tell about the peoples of the Far North and their culture to all residents of Russia and the whole world. During the pandemic lockdown, this idea was realized. We moved along with the music from west to east, studying the culture, traditions, history and territory of the endless snowy land. We invite listeners to do the same. To select the compositions that were included in the album, we listened to more than 100 hours of material – this is the bright and harsh folklore of the Pomors, the songs of Nganasan shamans, the mysterious art of the Yakut people, full of life and imitation of wild nature”, said Roman Laletin.
The album can be listened to for free on Yandex.Music, as well as on Spotify.
