#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. The Dudinka curling team is preparing for the championship of the Siberian Federal District. Athletes got a chance to participate in competitions, having won second place in the championship of Krasnoyarsk.
The SFD Championship will be held from 15 to 23 February in the Krasnoyarsk curling arena. A team of five people will defend the honor of Taimyr – two novice athletes, two experienced ones and their playing coach.
With the Nornickel’s support, the team has recently won silver at the Krasnoyarsk championship. Having entered the top five, our athletes received an invitation to the SFD Championship.
“The championship of the Siberian Federal District will be fundamentally different from the championship of the Krasnoyarsk region, many well-known teams from Irkutsk, Tomsk will come, I personally know them – these are guys who constantly play. We will also try our best”, says the team’s coach Andrey Zharnikov.
The Taimyr team has not participated in competitions of this level for the last two years due to the lack of regional funding. This year, Nornickel helps the athletes.
If Dudinka curlers are among the top three winners at the Siberian Championship, they will have a chance to get to the Russian Cup.
“If you get into the top eight teams at the Russian Cup, you get the opportunity to participate in the group B of the Russian championship. If you get into the top four of group B, you enter the main team of the Russian Championship. The Russian Championship is the highest bar, even the main men’s team of the Krasnoyarsk region did not get there. But we can be the first to get”, Andrey Zharnikov shared.
Earlier, the Taimyr curling team became the first in its subgroup among men’s teams at the championship of the Krasnoyarsk region.
