#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. Starting in September 2025, first-graders in Taimyr will begin studying using a new primer in the Dolgan language. The textbook, published as part of the state program Preservation and Development of the Traditional Way of Life and Economic Activity of Indigenous Peoples of the Krasnoyarsk Region, was published at the end of 2024, according to the Krasnoyarsk region’s official portal.
The author of the updated primer is Anna Barbolina, a leading specialist at the Taimyr House of Folk Art, a teacher and native speaker of the Dolgan language. The publication combines traditions and modern approaches to teaching the native language. The book is supplemented by stories and poems by Dolgan authors, as well as bright illustrations that will help children learn their native language in an entertaining way. Plans include the release of additional textbooks on literary reading in the Dolgan language.
“The teaching aids will soon be delivered to schools in the villages of the Hatanga rural settlement, where the Dolgans live compactly. Part of the publication will remain in Dudinka, the other will be sent to Ust-Avam and Volochanka”, Anna Barbolina noted.
