#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. A total of 126 industrial enterprises from 12 Russian cities participated in the federal project Clean Air. Over the past six years, these companies have invested 677.5 billion rubles into modernizing their operations. As a result, emissions of harmful substances into the atmosphere have decreased by 899 700 tons.
This information was reported by Konstantin Tsyganov, a State Duma deputy for ecology and the first deputy minister of natural resources and ecology, according to abnews.ru.
Tsyganov noted that Nornickel made the most significant impact, achieving a reduction in emissions by 734 000 tons, largely due to its groundbreaking environmental initiative known as the Sulfur Program.
Additionally, emissions were reduced by 6 500 tons through an investment of 33.1 million rubles in the Clean Air project, which includes various regional and municipal programs.
Since 2019, 14 coal-fired boiler houses have been closed and modernized, 8700 households have been converted to gas, and 698 units of public eco-transport have been introduced.
Earlier this year, a verification process confirmed the achievement of quotas at Nornickel’s facilities, revealing that the efficiency of the gas purification systems under the Sulfur Program reached an impressive 99.1 percent. The company has also implemented an air monitoring system in Norilsk.
