#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. Researchers from the Institute of Material Culture of the Russian Academy of Sciences, along with the Arctic and Antarctic Research Institute, have uncovered ancient sled in the Far North. The excavations took place at the Zhohov site, located on one of the islands in the De Long archipelago in the East Siberian sea. This finding was reported by tv21.ru, citing the study.
Analysis indicates that the sled is at least 9000 years old, suggesting that the settlement of the high latitudes in the East Siberian Arctic began during the early Holocene. This discovery also supports the idea that sled dog breeding was established in the Arctic at an early stage.
In addition, researchers previously discovered unknown types of algae in the Arctic and found fossil remains of the steppe saiga off the Taimyr coast.
