Young correspondents taught sports journalism basics

December 18, 2024

The Media School in the Polar Region’s guest was a master of sports in figure skating and a TV presenter of Match TV channel.

#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. The media school began its tenth anniversary year with the basics of sports TV journalism, the peculiarities and nuances of working in it. The young correspondents have many more interesting meetings with the leading masters of journalism ahead.

From the first moments Emma Gadzhieva attracted attention. Confident, with a well-positioned voice, she charmed all those present in the audience.

“Journalists should be able to ask questions and be active, bright, bold. We should not be afraid to ask questions. Even if you think it is a silly question, today all doubts are cancelled, we communicate and learn from each other. I am sure that I can learn something from you too”, with these words the girl began her conversation with the audience.

Since the meeting was attended not only by novice journalists, but also by novice skaters, Emma shared with the guys her sports experience and her development in journalism. These were professional tips and secrets, as well as personal life experience.

“I’ve done everything on television. When I came to TV for the first time, I didn’t know anything at all. I had no acquaintances who would tell me anything. I studied for a couple of months at the journalism school in Ostankino during the period when the Vancouver Olympics were on, in 2010. Because the Olympics were at night, First channel needed someone who knew figure skating and who could quickly say what was important, what was not important, what should be included and what could be sacrificed, edit it quickly and give it to the Good Morning program. The only person who suited First channel at that moment was me, because I understood the nuances of figure skating. But I didn’t know how to do anything on television. The only thing I had a skill in was editing, because I learnt it myself at home. I liked shooting stories, and initially my dream was to become a journalist. I still think it’s the coolest job in television, radio and anywhere else. A journalist is a person who is always at the centre of events. That’s how my career in television started”, said Emma.

Two hours of dialogue with the sports journalist were held in one breath, and after it there was an autograph session. Emma Gadzhieva was photographed with the children and promised that she would definitely try to come to Norilsk again. She thanked the audience for lively dialogue, interesting questions, sincerity and emotions.

We would like to add that the project Media School in the Polar Region is implemented with the support of Nornickel, and the audience is going to have many more interesting and useful meetings and master classes with leading journalists of the federal media.
