About 73 thousand individuals of the Siberian sturgeon fry from the Red Book were released into the Yenisey. The fry was raised at the Norilsk hatchery.
“One million fry idividuals per year is the capacity of the plant. 250 000 individuals of whitefish and char were also released under the state order program this year. The Siberian sturgeon caviar was transported from the Abakan’s Beloyarsky plant. The fry grew here from July to September”, said Natalya Lukoyanova, director of the fish hatchery.
The average weight of the fry individual is a little over a gram. Its length is three to four centimeters. The individuals with such parameters are considered viable and ready for safe transportation to the reservoir, specialists said. Similar promotions are held annually.
Over a million Siberian sturgeon fry have been released into the Yenisey during the past four years thanks to efforts of Nornickel.
“An absolute priority in the work of Nornickel is environmental protection. The company invests heavily in environmental improvement activities. One of these activities is the replenishment of biological resources, in particular the stocking of the rivers. The company is actively engaged in maintaining the ichthyofauna every year by releasing fry of such fish as sturgeon, char and grayling”, noted Alexey Kunaev, the acting director of the Environmental Control Department of Nornickel Polar Division.
