#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. After inter-navigation holidays, the crew members of the Yenisey River Shipping company (YRSh) returned to work. Crews led by captains began preparing ships for navigation, which was less than a month away.
The ship repair campaign peak load occurs in the spring. At this time, fleet preparation is carried out jointly by coastal units and ship crews.
In total, more than 400 fleet units are being prepared for operation at the YRSh. Most vessels are undergoing routine repairs, some are subject to medium repairs, and some are undergoing major restoration repairs. Crews are replacing main engines, diesel generator units and their power plants, heating boilers, and other large mechanisms and carrying out modernization. Several tugs, barges and floating cranes are being re-equipped to assign them higher navigation classes. This will allow the shipping company to increase the capacity of the fleet used to operate in the Yenisey gulf.
During the upcoming navigation season, six new sea-class barges will go on voyages, four of which the shipping company received in 2023 and two – a year earlier. In 2024, the company’s fleet will be replenished with another batch of four similar vessels.
“We attach great importance to the high-quality and timely implementation of the ship repair program. Summer in Siberia is short, for rivermen every minute counts, therefore, given the importance of the tasks we face, it is necessary to eliminate the risk of breakdowns and downtime of the fleet during navigation”, emphasized Evgeny Grudinov, executive director of the Yenisey River Shipping company.
Costs for the fleet repairs and modernization in 2024 are projected at 1 billion 230 million rubles – 16 percent more than in the previous year, the shipping company press service reports.
The Yenisey River Shipping company, the leading cargo carrier in the Yenisei river basin, has the most powerful river fleet in the region. The company delivers goods as part of the northern delivery to ensure the functioning of the Norilsk industrial region, the renovation of Norilsk and a number of other areas. In navigation 2023, the company delivered 3.3 million tons of cargo to consumers.
