#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. Rosatom state corporation intends to create, together with the transport company DP World from the United Arab Emirates (UAE), a long-term program for the development of the Northern Sea Route (NSR). This was stated by the state corporation head Alexey Likhachev at the Russia exhibition’s government coordination center.
“Our most important task with our Arab partners is to form an alliance for the development of transit on the Northern Sea Route. The task is not to buy or sell something to our Arab partners, but to make a large long-term program with the participation of DP World in the development of the Northern Sea Route, primarily in terms of transit container transportation. They are great masters in the container business, one of the leaders of the global market, and when we formed an alliance with them (we have a joint venture), we set strategic goals”, noted Alexey Likhachev.
Russia is interested in DP World’s competencies in organizing loading and unloading operations in ports (stevedoring activities), port services, and influencing all logistics processes in the world. These competencies need to be combined with the tasks of developing the global dimension of the Northern Sea Route.
The Rosatom state corporation and DP World signed an agreement on strategic cooperation in the global market back in December. The document is aimed at increasing the efficiency of international trade between the BRICS countries and their partners, as well as at creating sustainable global transport and logistics chains. To achieve the stated goal, it is planned to create an international logistics operator to operate in the Russian and international markets.
The agreement will be implemented on the basis of Russia’s supporting infrastructure, including the Northern Sea Route, Eurasia, the Middle East, Africa and South America, TASS reports.
