Unified permafrost monitoring center to operate in 2025

October 30, 2024

It will allow combining information flows from federal and regional centers.

#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. If funds are allocated, a unified permafrost monitoring center may begin operating in Russia as early as 2025. According to Mikhail Kuznetsov, the Vostokgosplan federal autonomous scientific institution’s director, the institution plans to create data collection protocols and conduct a number of other works that will allow combining various information flows from federal and regional centers.

These are important tasks given climate change and permafrost degradation against the backdrop of global warming, which pose risks to Arctic infrastructure, TASS reports, citing the speaker.

At the same time, Vostokgosplan has to develop a concept for a unified center and a corresponding bill.

We previously told that the Association of geocryologists was established in Russia.
