#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. According to the Ministry of the Russian Federation for the Development of the Far East and Arctic, approximately 1.2 million tourists visited the Arctic in 2024. This represents less than one percent of the total tourism across the country, as reported by TASS.
“Northern exotics, unique cuisine, a sense of adventure, stunning natural landscapes, and the rich traditions of indigenous peoples living throughout the Arctic have all contributed to the rising interest seen by tour operators. However, this growing demand isn’t being satisfied because there simply aren’t enough offerings”, said Maya Lomidze, executive director of the Russia Tour Operators Association. “I believe that with the launch of cruise services to other islands and new programs in various Arctic zones over the next season and a half, we could see a doubling of tourist numbers”.
Earlier, we reported that as part of the Year of Arctic Tourism initiative, the Russia Tour Operators’ Association and the Polar Travel Club will promote the tourist potential of Russia’s Arctic regions to international travelers.
