#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. Pictures of lightning over rooftops, cars and people almost waist-deep in water – Norilsk residents share their impressions on social networks of a powerful thunderstorm and downpours that took place a couple of days before and continue today.
Eyewitnesses say that the roadway on Laureates street was more like a river, in which cars almost stalled. Some townspeople had to walk almost waist-deep in water near their houses.
Residents of several high-rise buildings complained that entrances were flooded. The 5 Lomonosov street house residents called technical services: people were afraid that the water would flood the foundation, but, as the administration said, the water does not go under the house, but into the collector.
On Ordzhonikidze street, 2, they complain that the yard has turned into a lake, and this happens every spring when the snow melts, and in summer and autumn when it rains.
The Arena sports and entertainment complex has also been damaged. There was a scheduled roof repair. During intense precipitation – 25 millimeters fell during the day, this is a third of the monthly norm – flooded part of the premises. Because of that, the complex temporarily stopped working.
Meanwhile, the downpour, as expected, helped finally put out the smoldering at the Norilsk garbage site, which had been on fire since Friday. Travelers who often go out into the tundra also rejoice: they say that the rain wetted the dry soil and vegetation well. Recall that in a hard-to-reach place in the area of Red Stones waterfall, a peat bog was smoldering. Equipment could not get there, volunteers and firefighters from Nornickel were working there.
According to the Ministry of Emergency Situations, dry vegetation in the north of the region burned almost every day this summer. Forest firefighters recently went to Lama lake, where the moss was burning.
Now in Norilsk cloudy weather is observed with clearings, it will rain from time to time. The temperature at night is +7, during the day it’s +12 … +15 degrees. At the weekend it will warm up to +18.
Previously, a model of climate change in the Arctic showed that in 40 years Norilsk may become a rainy city.
