#ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. On the International Day of the Photographer, July 12, the annual regional photo exhibition Taimyr Photo of the Year 2022 was opened at the Norilsk Museum. The audience was presented with the best works that passed the competitive selection, with the participation of the permanent project’s partner the photo club Taimyr.
The exhibition project’s main goals are to unite local photographic communities, popularize and develop photography in Taimyr, support regional photo artists and present new works representing the territory and events taking place on it.
The project is conditionally competitive and is designed for participants who are seriously passionate about photography. The organizers fundamentally avoid subjective evaluation of creativity and don’t award first, second and third places selecting works. The very fact of including a photo series in the exhibition project speaks of the author and the declared works’ recognition.
The organizing committee received 58 applications for participation this year. The most original, strong, emotional and high-quality works were selected. The invited experts were project photographers and artists Sergei Poteryaev from Yekaterinburg and Lesha Pavlov from St. Petersburg.
Eight authors were selected for the photo exhibition. They presented their stories in photographs about rafting on the river, rehearsals in the theater, street photography, the play of color in the Norilsk architecture and displaying their own emotions and hidden meanings.
“It is interesting that most of the pictures this year are photo stories about a person in Norilsk in different roles and manifestations. The pandemic and isolation have also been reflected in the images. These are our everyday life and the author’s view of life in the Arctic”, said the museum’s deputy director Vasily Moroz.
