ARCTIC. #SIBERIA. THIS IS TAIMYR. On the last weekend of August, the Taimyr village of Dikson celebrated the 80th anniversary of the legendary battle for the Soviet Arctic coast.
The Dikson defense from the Admiral Scheer Nazi raider attack went down in the history of the Great Patriotic War as the only battle in Eastern Siberia of the USSR. It also became significant for thwarting the invaders’ plans to penetrate deep into the territory of the country from the Arctic seas through the Yenisey gulf and the Yenisey river.
The Krasnoyarsk region and Taimyr leaders took part in the events dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the heroic defense of Dikson. The main festive events were held on the territory on August 27. It was on this day 80 years ago that the North sea sailors accomplished the immortal feat – they defended the Arctic Dikson from the Nazi invaders.
First of all, a rally was held on the territory with a minute of silence and the laying of flowers at The Mass Grave of Seven Severomorians Who Died in Battle with the Nazi Battleship on August 27, 1942 monument. After putting wreaths into the water, a rally at the Glory memorial to the Dixon defenders – sailors from the North sea and fighters of the people’s militia on mount Yuzhnaya took place.
At the end of all events, a concert was held with the Krasnoyarsk band Yahont participation, which performed a new song about Dixon from their repertoire, prepared specifically for the anniversary event.
